Zigmat tour diary by: Monica

Dear Readers,

This is my 3rd day of the tour and we´ve been having a fantastic time. We arrived in Rio, where we needed to be for the first performance. There was a lot of rain and traffic, but we were happy have finally arrived after a 9 hour flight from JFK. Barral, our manager and the tour support met us at the airport. They were and have been incredibly generous during this entire process.

We drove from the airport to the hotel and soon to the venue for sound check. I felt entirely nostalgic being there. I had visited Rio before but never during this season, nor for the purposes of performance. Rio has a very special energy and charm. It feel as though you are in the 70s but not quite… Anyway, the show was amazing. People were warm and charismatic and even though we were really tired from the flight, we put on our best.

In the morning, we drove by Copacabana and Ipanema had some coconut water and skin in the rain, took some pictures and left for out next town. We were headed to a small barrio called Juiz de Fora. It was a beautiful town. The sun finally was creeping behind the heavy rain clouds and we went to our hotel to check in and quickly head to the venue for a sound check. That day I received a copy of the newspaper and saw that Zigmat..s performance was on the front page, INCREDIBLE!! The show was packed, and I mean really, really full and people knew all the lyrics by heart…. it was an amazing night.

Now we are in the town of Belo Horizonte, beautiful horizon. On the 4 hour drive here we shared a car with a gentlemen by the name of Squilo. He is an amazing percussionist and part of our lable..s crew. While on voyage he gave Aynsley and me lessons on different percussion rhythms in Brazil, their names, origins and people…

So far, I have had an unbelievable experience here in Brazil. Check back for updates…
un beso,
Monica

Ps: I uploaded some photos and videos… check them out :)
